Terrae Cycles
for saxophone quartet

Terrae Cycles
Inspired by Natasha Awuku’s artwork “Circular Motions of Life,” Terrae Cycles traces a single theme through a range of textures that correspond to the sections of the circle in Awuku’s work. The piece begins at the top of the circle and works its way clockwise through the various imagery until it returns to the start, and the theme modulates to twelve different tonal centers over the course of its journey. Awuku's evocative work forms the structure of this piece, and the composer is grateful to her artistic vision as a driving force for the work. The composer also would like to thank the Art of Energy initiative for its bold and visionary programming mission and for including her in this exciting project.
